Your braces can help you achieve the smile of your dreams, but that’s only the case if you take good care of them. This means you need to keep up on oral hygiene regularly. Now, Dr. Joshua Knowles and our orthodontic team understand that oral hygiene with braces can be tricky. So to help you, we have some tips and recommendations.
Our first recommendation is to brush your teeth after you eat, whether it’s a meal or snack. As you brush, use handy oral hygiene tools, like a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Brushing might be a bit difficult because of your braces. If this is the case for you, use an interdental brush to clean the hard-to-reach spaces around your braces.
Our second recommendation is to floss your teeth at least once a day. However, if possible, it’s best to floss after you eat, just like brushing. This is important because it can remove food particles from the crevices of your smile and prevent dental issues as well as an embarrassing food-filled smile. As you floss, use a floss threader to guide the floss through small spaces, which should make flossing with braces a little easier.
Our third recommendation is to rinse your mouth with an antibacterial mouthwash daily. This can complete the smile-cleaning job and freshen your breath.
