If you want to achieve the smile of your dreams during your orthodontic journey, then you need to care for your braces. Caring for your braces can keep them in tip-top shape and can help you avoid setbacks during your treatment. So, our orthodontist, Dr. Joshua Knowles, encourages you to make braces care a top priority. To help you properly care for your appliance, he encourages you to do the following things:

-Keep up on oral hygiene: Brushing and flossing are both very important when caring for your braces. This is because they clean the appliance and help you avoid dental issues, like cavities. So, make sure to brush after every meal and to floss at least once a day. If you can floss more often, like after each time you brush, do it.

-Use orthodontic tools to clean your braces: There are many tools available that can help you clean the little spaces of your braces and smile that your toothbrush and dental floss cannot normally reach. It’s best to use these tools often so you can prevent plaque buildup and clean the appliance and smile regularly.

-Watch what you eat: There are many foods that can damage your braces if you’re not careful. Some of those foods include hard, sticky and chewy foods. They tend to pull the brackets off the teeth and even bend the wires. So, avoid these foods as much as possible.
